Swiss luxury watchmaker Franck Muller announced the launch of Encrypto, which it calls the world’s first functional Bitcoin watch.
The bitcoin watch comes with a QR code that allows users to add their Bitcoin to their wallet or check their balance directly through the dial.
The QR code and cold storage system were designed in partnership with crypto investment company Regal Assets.
Encrypto comes as a two piece “Deep Cold Storage” set, with its own unique public address etched on the dial, and a sealed USB that contains the private key. The dial is designed using the QR code of Satoshi’s Genesis Block address, and also sports bitcoin’s logo.
The company noted that the watch’s cold storage wallet uses offline generated, non-deterministic TRNGs (True Random Numbers Generated) that cannot be hacked.
The Encrypto will be a limited-edition series, with a maximum of 500 units of each version available online. It is currently available online and at the company’s Dubai Mall store.
The company allows the customers to customize both the dial and the band of the watch, while some models include precious metals and diamonds in the dial and frame.
In January, another Swiss luxury watchmaker, A. Favre & Fils, had announced the development of a handcrafted mechanical watch with a built-in crypto cold wallet and a proprietary security solution based on blockchain technology.
